Brethren Volunteer Service

Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS) is sponsored by Church of the Brethren as a service organization. It is a full-time volunteer program that places adult volunteers in projects in the United States and some locations around the world to advocate justice, work for peace, serve human need, and care for creation. Some of our members have had incredible experiences building community. One couple spent two years as docents at the World Friendship Center in Hiroshima, Japan. They facilitated Zoom meetings where people could listen to Hibakusha tell their stories with translators (Hibakusha are the survivors of the atom bomb in 1945.) They also were English-speaking docents to visitors to the center, as well as teaching English / learning Japanese with residents.
