Thanksgiving Baskets

Thanksgiving Baskets

Every year, we provide 80 families with all materials needed for a classic Thanksgiving family meal. The recipients include families of children attending Olympic View Elementary, the Broadview Family Shelter, and this year we will give some baskets to Northaven staff members too.

It’s only possible with collective effort! We need donations of money, supplies, freezer space, and dollars. We check out every grocery ad and flyer in the first two weeks in November, and then we start shopping.

Let’s do it!

  • The legendary pie sale at Grocery Outlet is on for this week. Sara Lee frozen pies are $3 each, and we need 75 of them. Already two people have contributed 10 pies each! I’m happy to pick them up or meet you to put them in the freezer at the church.
  • Empty cardboard boxes are needed.
  • On Sunday afternoon at 4pm we will gather at the church building to set out 45 boxes and fill them with food for our Olympic View Elementary families. We literally have 700 pounds of vegetables to give away. We will have small, medium, and large boxes to feed different sizes of families, ranging from 2 to 8 people.
  • Monday November 24 is distribution day! We need 8-10 helpers to deliver boxes. The families all live very close to the church. We usually have to deliver a third of the boxes anyway, but this year we are trying to deliver *all* of them.
  • We love more donations of $$$ if you can spare it. If you click this link, select “Thanksgiving Baskets” instead of “General Offerings”.

Delivery drivers:

  • We’ll give you a list of 5-7 families who have requested baskets.
  • I’ll text you a template to contact them. It will be this:
    • This is <name> from Olympic View Church. I am delivering Thanksgiving baskets today. Are you home so we can bring you your basket? Also, what kind of pie: pumpkin or apple?
    • If they don’t reply, let me know. The follow up text is:
This is Olympic View Church. If we don’t hear from you by 6pm we’ll deliver your box to somebody on the waiting list.
  • Families indicated a time frame when they will be home to receive boxes. the four “windows” are:
    • 9am-12pm – need two or three drivers
    • 12pm-3pm – need one or two drivers
    • 3pm-6pm – need one or two drivers
    • 6pm-9pm – need one driver
  • We will load up your car with goodies – a box of veggies, frozen pie, topping, and a frozen bird. Then you’ll be on your way! As the day goes on, we may run out of one kind of pie or another – doesn’t matter, both kinds are scrumptious and will be appreciated.

You can really help out by shopping for DEALS – we will advise you what to get and where to go – you buy the items and we’ll refund you the money. IF YOU SEE A FANTASTIC DEAL LET US KNOW SO WE CAN SEND A SQUAD TO PROCURE THOSE GOODIES! Leave a message at the church office (206-525-8900) or contact Harriet Koscho if you would like to participate!

Donations are accumulating in the office!
